Last night at the annual dinner we were all invited to finish the sentence 'I like photos because'. 17 out of 22 people responded and here are the anonymous results. It's quite interesting to guess who has written each one.
I take photos because… 1. I enjoy the surroundings and taking photos of the native wildlife. I also enjoy taking family and sporting photos (could be the same thing). 2. Family snaps mainly – holidays, etc. Daily blip has helped. 3. I like to document the places and people I visit. As a hobby it provides opportunities to get out and about with reasonable costs. Have built a timelapse camera, watch this space for results… 4. ..of the pleasure of taking them. Also, for a record of where I’ve been and done over the years. I started photography in the 1940s and progressed to developing and printing in 1950. I’ve been associated with the camera club since the late 60’s. Peter & I have our names on some of the cups. 5. I like to record images of places I have visited as memories. I also like to take photos of family as reminders of happy occasions. Also, because sometimes David tells me to take them! 6. I want to record life as I experience it and to express a view on some of the events of the day. 7. They are the history of my life, family and friends. I also stick the pretty ones on my kitchen wall. It’s a habit! 8. It is my hobby and I try to capture what I see. I also partake in photo manipulation and post-processing. It also brings me together with other like-minded people. 9. I like creating pictures and images that are both attractive, interesting and thought-provoking. I am keen to enhance my work to make them distinctive. I like to photograph people and create situations with people in the image. I am constantly looking for ways to improve and enhance my work. 10. They form a visual diary of my activities (and I can’t draw). 11. I enjoy the process of taking and creating an image from an idea and finishing that off to completion. Sometimes going off on a trip when you don’t know where you’re going - once you arrive produces the best photographs. 12. To create family memories. 13. They remind me of my holidays each year and allow me to still retain an interest after so many years as a stills photographer. 14. Positives: 1) Gets me out of the house, 2) Enjoy community spirit, 3) Obtain ideas on photography, 4) need hobbies in retirement, 5) Looking at new genres. Negatives: None except fitting in deadlines but necessary. 15. I enjoy taking and after looking at what I’ve seen throughout the day. Also for remembrance. 16. I like reminders of family and friends and beautiful landscapes that I have visited. and finally… 17. I no longer take photos because I can’t walk far enough, but I used to record sights of London and places I’ve been to on holiday. Thank you to everyone that took part and carry on enjoying your hobby. |
