Outing to Abney Park

Hi,

I don't have morbid curiosity but after the 'success' of Highgate (and the hill climb), interest was expressed in another of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ garden cemeteries of London. Abney park, https://abneypark.org/ is in Stoke Newington and is free to enter. The easiest route here is a train to London bridge station, then a 30 minute bus ride to Stoke Newington High street. Using London Overground is complicated to get there.

I'm thinking this would suit an Autumn/Winter setting.  I've checked trains/TFL engineering to the end of the year and have a few potential dates, you can vote for your preferred options in the poll below.

Sunday 5th November,
Saturday 25th November,
Sunday 26th November,
Saturday 3rd December,
Sunday 17th December,

I appreciate when I tried to arrange the trip to Highgate, we re-scheduled multiple times due to weather and train strikes, I expect similar for this.

What date for the next magnificent seven?
You can select up to 5 options.

Hi Ian

Just read this article in today's Times which could be a good subject for London outing, it mentions a website to add new finds and assume to check existing.

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/4716a672-7434-11ee-b9bb-a19d1562d9ff?shareToken=fcf4158ee81dccd8c40ee2f0c71671cf

Doubt if can be concluded before Haloween though

Nice one...you could have made the ghost transparent for more realism.

Hi,

Shall we try for Sunday 26th November, with the 17th December as a reserve date, in case the weather is rather wet?

Meet at Liverpool Street Station around 10:30am, then we all take the Overground to Stoke Newington.
For those travelling from Orpington, take the train to London Bridge, then the Northern line to Moorgate. It's a short walk to Liverpool Street.

Stoke Newington  Church street, which is nearby, has a number of eating and drinking places, hopefully without the hills we encountered in Highgate!

Who was interested in going, I can only see the number of votes?

Hi,

Who is coming along tomorrow?
A 40% chance of rain in the middle of the afternoon but dry before that. With good timing, we'll be having something to eat and drink if that happens.

Hopefully the trains will be running Ok from Liverpool Street, this was in the TFL travel update:

No service between Liverpool Street and Enfield Town/Cheshunt/Chingford until 10:15
Use alternative Tube services or local bus routes. Rail replacement buses will run between Seven Sisters and Enfield Town/Cheshunt, and between Hackney Downs and Chingford. This is due to Network Rail works.

Our 10:30am meetup should be fine, there is also a bus from Liverpool Street to Stoke Newington.

Many thanks to Ian for organising the outing to Abney Park Cemetery yesterday.  Quite a journey to get there, but well worth the effort with the autumn colours and dog walkers.  Here's few pics from the day...
