There were some super images last night, particularly natural history and macro. We can't really argue over the result but I thought some of the judge's comments a bit strange e.g. the comments re David's Grenfell image not being 'current'. Do we look at Robert Capa's images and think they are any less powerful due to passage of time?
Sevenoaks CC were in the PAGB inter club print final last weekend. They didn't do that well. The winning club had 15 prints, all of people. It seems you have to have to take a portrait of a person with wrinkles, or wearing period dress, or covered in grime, and situated in a room that looks as though it hasn't been touched since the turn of the century!
Natural history shots that have been 'set up' didn't fare well. e.g. Mountain hare, Colin the cuckoo, Kingfishers, Osprey with trout only achieved average scores as the judge's are now seeing so many of that type of set up shot. If you think the competition was tough last night, it's nothing in comparison to the wider club photography particularly up North.

Totally agree with Peter’s thoughts as once again the judge gave lots of positive comments on several images only to drop points below expectations but that’s judging ……

I had similar thoughts on the comments on my image. When does documentary become history?
