Stephen Carroll presentation

Stephen Carroll – An Asian Odyssey

This was a brilliant talk about his two month trip to Mynamar, Nepal and India in 2019.  Those that were fortunate enough to attend this event would have been happy for Stephen to show all of his images (many thousand) from the trip.  However, he selected about 300 or so images which were gems.

He travelled with Mark Seymour an accomplished wedding photographer and Nikon embassador.  Starting in Mynamar, they travelled to Nepal, Nagaland, other regions in eastern India before reaching Kolkatta.  They photographed street scenes and people going about their everyday lives.   Stephen used a wide angle lens on Sony mirrorless camera for the trip.  He said that the wide angle lens and the flip screen enabled him to get close and take some candid shots in life-mode.

Stephen said that despite the poverty the people were friendly and welcomed the opportunity to be part of his photographic odyssey.  Travelling to these regions presented Stephen with wonderful opportunities to portray the way people live in these diverse regions.  For example, Nagaland is a culturally distinct region of India.  Until recently the local Konyak tribes were fearsome, tattooed headhunters.  Fortunately, for us Stephen’s photographs pleased the local chiefs!

Here are a selection of the photographs from his talk.
