Hi Ian
A Horsefly is more brown in colour and even has a brownish tint to its eyes. I think what you have shot here is what is known as the Autumn Fly  (Musca autumnalis) - I googled it :-)

Barrie, I generally like the cork out of the bottle, but I like your first image with the cork in the bottle.
