His FRPS panel is stunning. I contacted him yesterday after seeing him on the news and asked about the equipment he used. His reply as follows:

‘You may need a bit more than extension tubes to get a high enough magnification. However, whatever camera system you use should have compatible extension tubes for your macro lens. I'm using micro 4/3 Olympus which has a 2x crop factor sensor, along with the 90mm 2x Macro lens. I can also add a 2x teleconverter when needed. That's how I achieve the necessary magnification. A lot of macro photographers also add a Raynox magnifying lens to the front of their macro lenses. That's another option.

Then it's a matter of finding your slime mould subject and having experience of focus stacking to capture them. Then of course you need stacking software to process the images. Good luck if you decide to have a go.’

Thanks for his comments and link - about 12 months ago I watched him present his work using equipment on a Olympus Workshop session, it was very impressive and had many viewers commenting on his work and setup

Cheers

I also saw him on TV.  Amazing work - where's Richard Waterman when you need him!

I almost wished I was a woodlouse living amongst these incredible spores.

I have a 90mm macro lens...just need to find those spores.
