PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION 16TH OR 17TH AUGUST 2014
(Adapted from The Times ‘Visit to Hever Castle’ day on June 19th 1937)
A competition open to all guests has been arranged under the auspices of Hever Castle for any photograph taken by Orpington Photographic Society during the day. A gold, sliver and bronze Hever Certificate will be awarded respectively to the first, second and third prize winner. Not more than six prints may be entered by any one entrant and prints must be at least 10in by 8in (20cm x 25cm) in size on 40cm x 50cm mounts.
Whilst the photographs should have been taken by the competitor, the fact that professional assistance has been received either in developing (printing) or mounting the prints will not render the entries ineligible. Entries should be prepared and mounted no later than September 5th in preparation for a planned exhibition.
Hi OPS Members,
Further to the notice I put out a couple of weeks ago, I am pleased to confirm we have had interest from some members of the society but there is plenty of opportunity for anyone else to join us on the day.
The ‘competition’ outlined above was planned as a tribute to the annual event held at Hever Castle when The Astors were owners of ‘The Times’ newspaper. I though it would be nice to give it a modern spin!
The weekend of the 16th/17th of August has a number of special events, which those attending will get the see and photograph, also not everyone may be aware of the potential Hever and the grounds have to create some stunning images. The opportunities are:-
• Jousting weekend, mounted knights jousting in the tiltyard including actors portraying Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn.
• Knights and Princesses school for younger children.
• Hever Castle gardens, including yew maze, Italian Gardens, Tudor Gardens, topiary and parkland walks, waterfalls and grottoes.
• Nymph fountain, Loggia, Japanese teahouse, lake walk with plenty of wildlife.
• Treelined avenue, river and lake, classical statuary
• The exterior of the castle itself. ( the front faces south)
Having seen the diversity of interest at our society there should be something to suit most photographic tastes!
It is intended at present to organise an exhibition of the images taken during the day within the castle at some later date but this will depend on the numbers of attendees and diversity of the images taken on the day. OPS would be the first ‘camera club’ able to do this at Hever!
If you would like to attend and have not let me know yet then please email me neil@euphoricimages.com before Saturday 9th August 2014, so I can advise you of timings, meeting arrangements, passes etc.
Please do not just turn up on the day!
I will confirm the exact date when we have a clearer idea of the weather but it will be the 16th/17th August.
Thank you
Neil Hobday
